FAQ
Cooling System
Coolant weeping near the thermostat housing on a KTM 790/890 Adventure is often a hose-connection problem, such as a loose clamp, a worn hose end, or a tired housing-to-hose seal, rather than a cracked housing. With the engine cold, check the clamps and hose ends for dampness, then retighten or replace what’s worn. If it keeps leaking, replacing the housing and hoses together is the longer-lasting fix. NICECNC Thermostat Housing Cover + Silicone Radiator Hose Kit covers both (reuse your original clamps).
It depends on your warranty status and what failed. If the bike is still under KTM’s factory warranty, have a dealer inspect the leak first, since fitting aftermarket parts can complicate a claim. Out of warranty, replacing the thermostat housing and hoses typically doesn’t need an engine teardown, but the coolant must be drained, refilled, and bled. NICECNC Thermostat Housing Cover + Silicone Radiator Hose Kit is one option for that job.
Seeking a Fix
Yes. The stock side stand foot has a small footprint, so on sand, mud, gravel, or soft dirt it concentrates the bike’s weight and sinks. The simplest fixes are parking on firmer ground, carrying a flat puck for soft spots, or fitting a larger stand foot. One option is the NICECNC Footstand Enlarger Kickstand Pad, a 130 g CNC-machined aluminum pad that enlarges the contact area.
Before riding, check for fluid seepage at the master cylinder, a firm brake pedal, and a straight disc with no cracks or wobble. A cosmetic scuff alone usually doesn’t affect braking, but any leak, spongy pedal, or bend means a mechanic should inspect it first. To protect against future drops, NICECNC makes a Rear Brake Master Cylinder Guard and a Rear Brake Disc Cover/Caliper Guard for the 790/890 Adventure R.
Performance Upgrades
Some of that comes down to the OEM shift mechanism's bearing and spring components losing consistency under sustained heat, particularly on long highway stretches or hot-climate rides. NICECNC's High-Performance Pro Shift Kit addresses this with an SKF/NSK hybrid ceramic micro bearing (reduces shifting friction and resists heat buildup) paired with a heat-resistant spring rated to maintain tension in extreme temperatures — it's a direct swap using the stock mounting points (OEM equivalent 63534024000/63634023000).
Long-Distance Touring / Luggage
Depends on what you're carrying. For a rigid top case, duffel, or dry bag, a rear rack gives you a flat mounting platform —NICECNC's Rear Luggage Rack is 6mm-thick 5052 billet aluminum with a roughly 30x32cm platform and 26 tie-down slots, plus pre-drilled mounting points compatible with SW-Motech and Kriega OS-rack adapter systems and RotopaX fuel/water containers (note: compatibility with plastic Givi Trekker cases is limited, so check that specifically if that's your setup). If you're running soft luggage or a rack-less bag system instead, NICECNC's Tie Down Brackets (5mm 5052 aluminum) are built around the mounting pattern used by Mosko Moto Reckless 80 bags but work with other rack-less systems too.
Yes, that's a common combination — the rear rack handles the top-mounted load, and NICECNC's Adjustable Luggage Rack Side Carrier Kit adds separate side mounting points for panniers or soft saddlebags without interfering with the top rack. Running both is mainly a matter of checking your total load doesn't exceed what your specific case/bag manufacturer rates for their hardware, since NICECNC's brackets are rated for mounting strength, not a specific luggage weight limit.
Ergonomics / Standing Riding
Stock footpegs on the 790/890 are relatively narrow, which becomes noticeable once you're standing on rough terrain rather than seated on pavement. NICECNC's Enlarged Foot Pegs (approx. 4.21"/107mm platform length) give a wider standing surface, and are commonly paired with their Adjustable Dual Rear Brake Pedal, since the two changes work together — once your foot position shifts with a wider peg, the stock brake pedal height often needs adjusting to match.
That's a real ergonomic conflict on stock ADV bikes — the pedal height that works seated is usually too low to reach comfortably standing. NICECNC's Adjustable Dual Rear Brake Pedal (7075-T6 aluminum, OEM equivalent 63513050033C1) has two height positions built in specifically for this — a higher position for standing/off-road control and a lower one for seated comfort — switchable with a simple push-pull mechanism, plus two length adjustment positions (12mm each) to fit different boot sizes.
